Why Older People are Happier People…

Does age equal happiness?

In my book, Reimagined, I talk about the 12 characteristics that the happiest people in the world possess – and what they can teach all of us. Statistically, 95% of my research subjects of individuals who live exceptional quality lives were between ages 61 and 80 years of age. Over 93% of the my private life design clients are between the ages of 30 and 58. What is this telling us? In many ways, it's telling us that higher quality lives have traditionally been the domain of more experienced individuals. It's also telling us a new generation of younger individuals is interested in learning what more mature and happier individuals have to teach us. But why is this so?

In this wonderfully enlightening clip, Laura Carstensen of Stanford explores why older people tend to be happier – and what that means to the rest of us.
